Hey, I'm Liz Enright and this is my little ol' menagerie of art, comics and writing. Expect the occasional cat robot, too. |
Last day in the quarter! I feel so…

Sketchbook post!
This is what happens when I don’t sleep. For my friend Chris Malone (and the internet too, I guess). Don’t judge! Who doesn’t like muddafuggin’ guinea pigs? Can I get a whu-whut?
Remember, kids: “Don’t death, let’s happy”.
I’m craving another overseas excursion. I can’t believe it’s almost been three years since my Tokyo trip.
Kip Maquette’s complete. :)
On to the next endeavor!
Three more weeks until summer break and I’m not entirely sure how the heck my storyboards, 2-3 pager, and sketchbook will be completed (among other responsibilities). Bring on the pain and coffee. Bring. It. On.

Look guys, I made my first maquette! It was a real struggle considering the result isn’t as immediate as brush and ink. At certain points it held no resemblance to the idyllic product floating around inside my mind. However, clay’s also a bit more forgiving. Scrape a little off here, add some more there. Bam! No matter what stage of the sculpt you’re struggling with, you can always tweak them, even if you armature is a little askew like mine was (Oops). I’m pretty happy with how Kip came out. I hope my process helps anyone else out there looking to build their first maquette. If you have any questions, shoot me a message and I’ll try to help. I’m looking forward to trying my hand at this again over the summer.
And yes, Kip is a raccoon, though he’s a little husky. I absolutely adore chubby animals. If you feel the same way, may I suggest clicking on the link?
To check out my personal blog, click on dis. It’s got links to awesome art, wonderfully strange things, and some photos from my travels. You guys are awesome, by the way! Thanks for following this here blog <3

A fun little project for my Environments, Props and Structures class involving two characters with vastly different weapons. Where did my mind go? Directly to the Craft Fair. This premise is goofy but was a ton of fun to draw.
This should give you an idea of where I was headed:
The modern-day craft show circuit tells the sad story disenchanted hobbyists at the height of an economic recession. Have you ever wondered why fewer and fewer tables return with each passing year? Lurking behind the thin guise of ceramic kitten salt and pepper shaker sets, laundry scented candles, and knee-length, patchwork sweater dresses is a hidden culture of barbarism. Every winter the expansive halls and showrooms house a different kind of event; one that features the creators and their crafts. The annual Craft Lady Death Jam pins the best-of-the-best against one another for riches they could never obtain otherwise. There are two stipulations: One, they must apply their skills towards a weapon of their own unique creation, and two, there can only be one survivor. This year’s finalists are perhaps the most vicious yet.
The masked Pin Prick is a cunning and dexterous master of needle work. Years of compulsively sewing and cross-stitching have made her an agile and formidable opponent, despite her age. She carries on her back what judges have dubbed the Loom of Doom, a cross-stitched frame with white spools of thread that are attached to an, otherwise approachable, quilted vest. Some of the heavy duty thread attaches to two makeshift knuckles that are pin cushions secured to the hand by a strap and reinforced by stainless steel needles. Also aiding her is a remnant from a rocking chair that she once shared with her missing husband, Hank. Of course, she kept the nails in the sentimental hunk of wood and protects her hands with a scrap of the quilt she sewed for Hank. It has been said that the Pin Prick isn’t in it for the money, but for blood, so that she may dye her white thread a shade of crimson unavailable at the local Michaels. She specializes in swift hand to hand combat that her earlier rivals certainly didn’t anticipate.
Her opponent is a fiery maven who calls herself the Ceramic Cat. She graduated from RISD in the 70’s with a degree in ceramics and was once a beloved favorite at shows. She ceased to travel the country when her cat passed away, turning her energy towards the reclusive habit of making ceramic cats statuettes. No one has lived to confirm this grim detail, but it’s suggested that she cast her cat in ceramic and placed it in her apartment window, taking it down twice a day to in order to be fed. Though potentially out of touch with reality, there’s no questioning her strong upper body and extensive knowledge of fire after years of dedication to her craft. Years of being a hermit have greatly affected her approach to combat, preferring long-reach weapons and a defensive tactic, unlike her offensive opponent. Her first weapon is a modified kiln prong with a ceramic cat head as a handle. She wields it in one strong hand to grab hold of and immobilize her enemy while she prepares the final blow. Also aiding the Ceramic Cat are several Molotov Cattails that smile brightly until impact. Lying across her shoulder is a homemade flame thrower that shoots flames from a ceramic cat’s mouth. It’s attached to a propane tank, limiting the Cat’s mobility, though few have been able to get close enough to take advantage of this. The propane seems to resemble the volatile nature of her psyche, which should be interesting pinned against the Pin Prick’s ruthless determination.
In Character Design class we worked on developing our own stories for animation. I don’t intend on getting into that field, as much respect as I have for the craft, but I do want to use this gnome girl and Kip for an online graphic novel. More info on them in future posts :) I’m working on redesigns and a Kip Maquette!
For my Character Design class I had to create two cartoon characters from the series Firefly. I wanted to capture Zoe’s impassable strength and River’s instability.
AVENGERS TEAS ASSEMBLE.
